Regular dental examinations at least twice a year are recommended by the American Dental Association for children and adults of all ages. During your examination, the dentist will check each tooth and the surrounding tissues including your gums, tongue, and cheeks. By doing this, the dentist will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels to determine if gum disease is present, and look for any damages, like a broken tooth. We also will provide oral cancer examinations and examine your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. This will allow us to create a personalized treatment plan just for you.
To ensure that your teeth and supporting structures are healthy, our staff may take a complete set of oral X-ray images during your initial visit. This allows us to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing bone loss, and check for any abnormal lesions. Radiographs are not mandatory, but are highly recommended once a year and before certain dental procedures.
Our plan of action will be thoroughly explained to you so a clear understanding is reached before any dental work is started. It is important to us that our patients know what the finish line looks like and what we can do to get there.
